| Dr. Charles Campbell is proud to bring sutureless
vitrectomy or 25 gauge surgery to Corpus Christi. He has been
performing this form of surgery since the beginning of 2005!
The standard vitrectomy involves cutting through
the conjunctiva, or fleshy part of the front of the eye, and
making openings in the pars plana area which require stitches
at the end of the surgery.
In the sutureless technique, small tubes, canulas or trochars
are placed through the pars plana area and very tiny instruments
are placed through these tubes. Once the surgery is complete,
the tubes are removed and no stitches are needed.
This is great news for the patient. They will
not experience the discomfort of sutures and since it is less
traumatic to the eye there will be less swelling, inflammation
and therefore an overall reduction in recovery time.
Only in certain cases can sutureless vitrectomy
surgery be performed. If you are scheduled to have Vitreous
surgery, Dr. Campbell will decide if this type of Vitrectomy
is right for you.
